kNOw Smoking

My mum, little brother and I were just at Bras Basah Complex today. (We were getting second-hand books for next year; you should too! I saved like, $100+. =D)

Well there I was, at this second-hand book store at the corner. Browsing the books placed on the tables outside the store, I heard a couple behind me talking. Not a very loving couple, in my opinion.

I turned around for a brief moment to look, and found the man smoking on a cigarette. He passed it to his girlfriend, and told her to just 'take a deep breath and take it all in'. Some tutorial, eh?

Gosh, I was quite mad! And then the girl just promptly agreed and tried to smoke for the very first time in her life. What was her reply? "Hmm, weird but not bad..."

Whatever it is, I hope she doesn't continue, and manages to persuade her evil meanie boyfriend who just took the first step in ruining his own girlfriend's life to stop. > . >

Erm, anyway now my question is... Should I have stopped it from happening myself? > . <

More Balloon Sculpturing

Unhappiness aside, I realized that I haven't posted about my 2 other balloon sculpturing escapades! XD I've already blogged previously about the first one, so now I'll tell you of the other two.

***

The first one was Round 2 of the Touch Childcare Centre's Graduation Ceremonies! This time it was for the centre at Hougang, and the highlight was a carnival thingie with food and game stalls! (The previous one at Clementi was 'The Amazing Race'.)

This time, my balloon sculpturing stall was only one of the many stalls there; so I wasn't as busy as the previous one. (Plus I had better experience, especially with my notes-to-self. XD) Everything pretty much went fine and well this time; things were much more fun and less hasty.

At times, I had my own break-times too, so I got the chance to visit the other stalls! The food was great; they had those fondue fruits, and the chicken wings, and the cocktail/bubble tea drinks~!

Other than that, there were games too, of course! The games were more suited for the little kids, but they had these different rules for different ages! This meant that me, being somewhat an adult, had to do the much harder tasks. > . < E.g. Throw rings over cones from 50000 metres away. (OK I'm exaggerating, but. > . >)

Well occasionally, I win the game and get these prize tokens. What you do is you take these prize tokens to the prize booth and trade it in for a try at the lucky dip! So you put your hand into the magical box thingie, and you get a certain letter/number which nets you a respective gift.

Well since I couldn't get much tokens from winning... I went from lucky dip-er to lucky dip helper-out-er! XD My balloon sculpturing stall was pretty much out of business nearer to the end, so I migrated to the prize booth. It was really fun! Some kid would come up to the booth and have a go at the dip. Then say they get '214', I'd gotta' go searching for the respective prize! XD

At times, there'd be kids with quite a few tokens (The record was a whopping 49.), so I had to find all the prizes A.S.A.P -- It really made things a lot more fun! =D

Oh, and one last thing -- There was this small girl who came up to the booth and called me 'Uncle!' -_-

***

On Sunday night, my uncle called me and told me that he needed my help again. This time, it was a teaching seminar for north-east schools. What would that have to do with balloon sculpturing, you'd ask? Well, there's this concurrent enrichment fair being held at the venue, so there were many different booths that could possibly aid a teacher in his/her lessons.

For example, there was this booth set up by a drama group, and it taught teachers how to make lessons more interesting through drama. As for our booth, we were to help them learn a bit about balloon sculpturing, so that it can be used during art classes or to make lessons more interesting.

Well, what's interesting is the reversal of roles, I guess! There I was standing there, teaching teachers how to twist and turn the balloons. XD First we were distributing these 'notes' to the teachers, and then we were guiding them step by step through the process... And then we were correcting them, giving them tips and the like...

Well that could possibly be a one in a lifetime experience, I guess! =D

Depression

Yeah, you saw that title right. > . > But it’s not really me; it’s more of my friends… So many of my friends are all depressed and stuff; either they’re lonely, or they’re angsty, or they’re confused…? Even I am not sure.

As for me, I’ve been pretty much happy and OK with things. But I guess you could say I’ve inherited their depression. > . < I just think of them and feel so sad. Sure, I wanna’ help, but I don’t know how to. I’ve tried, but I guess it doesn’t help much? Or else, I’m not helping right.

Then if I don’t help, I feel like such a terrible friend. Or else, I feel selfish when I’m happy. Right now, I’m just plain confused and helpless as to what to do. I guess there’s only so much as to what one can do? I really what things to be A.O.K.

P.S. Excuse the short post and the incoherency. > . >

Helping Hands

Sorry for not blogging for so long! There wasn’t really anything interesting up til’ now, so. Forgive me! But I guess I’ll blog more often in future; my posts don’t really have to be about something really interesting, right? I could, like, post about my breakfast or something! XD (Like today my breakfast was bacon and eggs and toast and hashbrowns! And yes I cooked it myself so it was _extra_ yummie~!)

Well moving back on track to the interesting stuff, ya? Saturday was a funnfunn day! What happened was this ushering thingie for IRS Day in the morning, followed by balloon sculpturing in the afternoon~! And yes it makes me happy when I get to help out. =P

***

The day before IRS Day we had a briefing for us ushers at Teachers’ Network. We were briefed on our spots and duties, and were later given a tour around the campus! Yeah so now we know all the toilets around there. XD Well anyways, my spot was at the backgate/track along with ZQ and Daniel. We were initially fine with that spot, until the next day when we found out that…

The backgate closes on weekends! So we were essentially stoning there doing nothing~! No one came in from the backgate, which meant no one to usher. > . > However, soon there were cars driving down our way to park in the field, cos’ the visitors’ carpark was filled!

So yeah, we were back in business! =D We got the cars to stop, and then told them to drive into the field and park along the track. After that we ushered them from their cars to wherever they wanted to go!

All of that was fun, of course. But what made me even happier was when the visitors left and drove their cars out! Why? Cos’ they waved goodbye and were appreciative! Yeah so we all waved back and each one made my day. =)

***

After the ushering thing all of us went for lunch at Burger King Wheelock. Over there were these Thai travellers and they needed help with getting to Sims Drive. So me and Gideon helped them get there by using my street directory and drew a map out for them! =D Then after that Gideon asked them why they needed to get there, and they said they needed to buy drumsticks. (Not the food, the instrument! XD Yeah initially I thought I had only been spending time trying to help them get there just so that they could buy chicken… XD)

So anyway yeah that was another good deed done. =D Go me!

***

Lastly, was helping my aunt out at Touch Childcare Services in Clementi! My aunt works in Touch Community Services, so she asked me to go down to do balloon sculpturing to raise funds!

Yes, I know balloon sculpturing. =P I don’t know why I never really told anyone about this talent of mine, but, well. Now you know. =P

So yeah, there I was twisting and twisting balloons frantically for the little kiddies – Dogs and flowers and swords and mice and the like. But the more popular ones were the swords for the boys and the flowers for the girl, so typical. Stereotypical.

Yeah the whole thing was fun, but I learnt many new things not to do when I’m doing something like this again. (Besides, I’ve got one more round to go this coming Saturday, too. Next time, it’ll be at Hougang. You can drop by to help if you want! ;))

#1: Prepare a few of _every_ colour before the whole thing starts. This way, you can get a headstart before you get swarmed by picky kids who want a certain so-and-so colour. > . <

#2: Be prepared for kids who wail because their balloons burst, and make sure you know how to make a new one pronto.

#3: Be prepared for special cases, such as when the kid wants a snake/caterpillar/worm/sausage/noodle strand. I.e. A balloon without any twisting. I guess that’s sort of a good thing, though.

#4: Be prepared for kids who want a _rainbow_ coloured balloon. Learn how to tell them nicely that they have to pick only one colour.

#5: Do not leave any balloon sculpting manuals on the table, especially ‘Advanced’ ones. This prevents the kids from flipping though the book and telling you they want a _teddy bear on a bicycle_.

Oh and one last thing, at the end of it all, I was given a trophy for my efforts! (Actually it was just a leftover trophy from the Amazing Race activity they had as part of the event, but still…!)

Here's a picture of a balloon doggie I made! Actually I'm just trying this whole picture thing out, so.

***

I guess that pretty much sums my Saturday up, and yes it was a fun day. Plus I got to help out with stuff, all that ushering and balloon sculpturing, so there’s that warm fuzzy feeling in my heart, ya? =D

So sorry for taking so long to post again! Yes I've been busy busy like a busy bumble bee (Heh, alliteration! =P) until I could only find time to post now. *Excuses, excuses...* > . >

Friday's Excuse:

Friday was our last day in school, so we moved our tables 3 stories up to our new classrooms on the green level. After that we had our class memorial service back in our 2.12 classroom, it was so sad! T_T But I agree with Henry, we shouldn't be so sad; we'll still see everyone next year lah, 'kaes! Plus there'll always be only one 2.12 '05. =)

That evening, ZQ and I had a sleepover at Michael's place before Lit Sem. It was fun of course, although I felt a bit extra; Michael and ZQ were supposed to rehearse for Lit Sem! XD But then again, they didn't rehearse until the last minute, and even when they did, I did help by giving constructive comments. =P Yay me~!

Saturday's Excuse:

So the next morning, the three of us went off for Lit Sem at DHS. Lit Sem was cool! There was this play by The Neccessary Stage, and it was real funny! Then after that we had the concurrent sessions, so I went to the one where Gideon, Henry, Michael, and ZQ were presenting. A pity for them, most of their audience were ACSians anyway. XD Oh and at DHS I met Kwok Yeong, Jotham, Chuan Yaw, and Brandon! Long time no see, eh! And so, I finally got my Kingdom Hearts guidebook back from Jotham. Now my brother will finally stop bugging me about it. =P

That night I went to the Night Safari with Boey, ZQ, and Jason! Haha, it was because Boey had some free pass thingie for 4. So typical, hor! XP But anyway, yeah it was fun. It's been so long since I went to the Night Safari; I think it's only my second time! So nice to see all the animals again, it was like I was reliving my childhood memories or something. XD

Weekend's Excuse:

Like every weekend, I go to my gramp's place. So there. =P Oh, oh! On Saturday after Lit Sem and before Night Safari, I went to Haagen Daz for their Chocolate Fondue~! I tell you, it was SUPER! Well duh, they had the chocolate, and the strawberries and bananas... But they also had these ice cream chunks that you could dip into the chocolate~! *YUMMIE~!*

Monday's/Wednesday's Excuse:

On both days I had PSL training, 'twas from 8.30am to 5pm on Monday... And 8am to 3.15pm on Wednesday. (I was late on Wednesday! I thought it started at 8.30am. > . > Hmph, I'm rarely ever late! > . <) Well we had some talks on both days, and Mr. Sham Juhari really did make the talks interesting, and the newspaper activity was pretty fun too. XD On Monday the external instructors organizing the Discovery Camp for the Sec Ones next year came down, and we did abseiling! Jeenkies, it was my very first time doing that, I was pretty scared. X_X But I managed to complete the task anyhow, so yay me! =D Then on Tuesday we had some practical lessons on planning a lesson for the Sec 1s' PC lessons. Yay that was fun too, I was pretending I was some teacher. =P But then my fellow PSLs were quite rude and they didn't cooperate, hmph. > . > But no matter, I'm sure my Sec 1s next year will be very nice and guai. =D Oh and did I mention, the tea breaks during the training was great! Got packet drinks, got sugar donuts, got cakes, got sandwiches and ice milo! *Yummie~!*

After PSL training on both days I zipped down to Choral Night at NYGH. Yeps, the recitals and plays were great! What I thought was commendable was that the plays were put up by classes; I'm sure each class had much fun in putting the recitals/plays up. Plus, they were good, too! Now just imagine if we were given such a chance too; to do a play as 2.12 or something! =D

Tuesday's Excuse:

Daniel invited us over to his place for some fun and games; lotsa' people went. (Me, myself *Read: The other Kevin*, Boey, Samuel Teo, Peter, Darrell, and ZQ.) We went really early, at around 9am. One of the first things we did was play tennis! Oh and Boey tried to be Maria Sharapova; he managed to hit one tennis ball into the fence and it stayed there. Pity he couldn't do a few more and spell 'Boey was here.' out. =P Well after that we went back up to Daniel's house to play Xbox/computer/board games. No doubt it was fun, but yeah i was a bit sad due to certain reasons. > . > Thanks Kevin for listening and helping us out! Trust me, you _did_ help. =) But anyway, yeah it's A.O.K. now.

Thursday's Excuse:

It was Hari Raya Puasa, so my parents and all weren't working. So yeah, we went down to my aunt's place at Toa Payoh for the day. There, I caught up with Amazing Race and Star Idol that my aunts helped me record while I was at Choral Night on Wednesday. I'm still sad about the Gaghan family getting eliminated! The kids so deserved to like, win it all; unlike those other bickering teams. X( Clarissa, the little girl, said something like, 'Winners never quit, quitters never win.'. Yep, in my eyes their winners! =D And yeah, Star Idol was pretty funny, it was the typical humour you get during these kinda' auditions. XD But what put me off was that it seemed as though it was the pretty faces that got through! I thought some others had pretty good acting chops, but they most probably weren't chosen 'cos they weren't good-looking enough. Perhaps to be an actor you really gotta' have the whole package? I hope not.

Friday's Excuse:

No excuse for Friday. Which is why I'm blogging now lor! XD Sorry again for the hiatus, hope I can get into regular posting habits since the coming few days aren't packed. Only thing is that I've to finish Chobits by Sunday so that I can return it to Herrick! And my holiday homework. > . < 'kaes, See you next time! *waves goodbye*

With a good appetite, you may either love to cook, or just love to eat! Being a laid-back kind of person, you enjoy the simple things in life. That's okay, because you don't like things moving too fast, anyway.
